CSIRO - Light Metals Flagship
Introduction
Global demand for ultra-light, ultra-strong, recyclable metals is growing as the world switches to low-emission vehicles, energy-saving devices and sustainable products.

Australia has:
- a mature A$8 billion aluminium industry which is among our top exporters
- a highly-prospective magnesium industry one of the world's richest titanium
resources on which to build a new industry.

Given such an endowment, the Australian Government, in its Light Metals Action Agenda, sees Australia becoming a world leader in light metals.

The Australian light metals industry generates around A$15 billion of wealth annually for the nation, with exports of more than A$10 billion.

The Light Metals Flagship conducts research and scientific activities for the entire value chain from resource development, to metal production and new markets for manufactured products.

The Flagship's work is guided by an Advisory Council that includes leading representatives from the light metals sector.
